Mohammed Comics Continued: Muslims Infantilizing the Prophet
The row over a Danish newspaper publishing twelve images of Mohammed is getting more heated. People are chanting “Death to Denmark” in Pakistan. Ambassadors are being recalled. Scandanavians are being told to evacuate the Middle East. A French news paper, France Soir, republished the images as a statement of solidarity… and the editor got fired as a result.
Time for another Mohammed Comic, then.
Note of April 15, 2008: I have voluntarily removed the image of this Mohammed Comic — not because of threats, but because of the recent lack of them. As of late, there have not been riots regarding Mohammed Comics or death threats directed at me or any other public creator of Mohammed Comics. As a gesture in recognition of this return to some state of non-violence on the issue, I am taking my drawn image of Mohammed down. After all, the point of the comic was not to anger Muslims, but to pointedly engage in free speech at a time when free speech on the subject of Islam was threatened. Should the threat arise again, you may expect to see my Mohammed Comics appear again as well.
It should be noted that not all, not even a majority, not even a large minority of Muslims are engaged in threats against non-Muslims who create images of Mohammed. Indeed, an independent Jordanian newspaper chastised extremists, asking “What brings more prejudice against Islam, these caricatures or pictures of a hostage-taker slashing the throat of his victim in front of the cameras or a suicide bomber who blows himself up during a wedding ceremony in Amman?”
Nevertheless, this reactive movement is speaking for Islam, is being buoyed by large crowds, has resulted in broad boycott compliance, and has been promoted by the official actions of a number of governments. That makes the movement a serious threat, not only to the individuals who publish an image of Mohammed, but to free expression itself. The only non-violent defense against such a movement is the continued exercise of the variety of free expression being threatened, without apology.
Speaking as someone with no religion looking from the outside in, this all looks really embarrassing. Is it really a good idea for a religion to treat its prophet as a weak, coddled baby in need of a ferocious mama bear? Is it really?
The last line says in Arabic, “there is no god but Allah, Mohammed is his prophet”. This is the second and third statement of the ’shahada’, or Moslem declaration of faith, the first statement being “allahu al-akbar” or Allah is greater.
No, “the Israelis” do not only say they want to live. “The settlers” aren’t part of “the Israelis” now? Which settlers are you talking about?
If the Israelis “just want to live,” why did they scatter a million unexploded cluster bomblets across southern Lebanon? Sounds like, in addition to wanting to live, someone in the Israeli military wanted lots of Lebanese civilians to die.

As for the Muhammad comic. Who cares! Every muslim knows that Muhammad was not to be portrayed so he is not falsely idolized. But who’s going to cut out the strip, frame it nicely in Islam’s tacky golden designs, hang it in a mosque and pray to it? If they get offended by it, they must be scared of it.
Oh yeah. I’m a practicing Muslim. I just hate that 99% of us make the 1% of real muslims, who actually realize that Islam/Christianity/Judaism is the same, look bad and violent.
Then it’s even more important for the moderates–moderate Moslems, moderate Christians, are there moderate atheists?–to speak out. A lot of Americans believe all Moslems are terrorists. I believe that will change when individuals start to reach across the cultural divide and call each other by name.

i am a new prophet for a new time and the real message is that we are all god. islam,judaism, and christianity are all false. allah lives inside each of us and when we realize this we will be able to achieve heaven. heaven is all around us and we are destroying it by destroying each other. we are the ones who have the power of life and death and we all know better. we all know the choices that we make affect everyone, and when we start making the right choices for ourselves because we all know the difference between right and wrong, and not for some imaginary reward or threat of punishment, that is where salvation begins. Muslims know this, Christians know this, Jews know this, and so do Atheists. We only destroy one another because we have been told to, not because of any real reason. It is cruel manipulation of the worst sort, to be convinced to spend your life in destruction. It is far more difficult to make your self and the world around you heaven than it is to make it hell. There are reasons as to why Prophet Muhammad cannot be drawn because he said it himself clearly before he died, which is why Muslims are very serious with the issue, to respect his wish and honor. So who ever thought Prophet Muhammad did not say it, get your facts straight.

People who believe that Islam is very violent are wrong. Anyone can be violent, but do not blame religion. And there is a legitimate reason why some Muslims take issues seriously and become offended. Incase AMERICA DID NOT REALISE, they are being discriminated against and portrayed as bad people mainly after September 11′th attack because “ISLAM IS BAD.
