Update: Frist says Patriot Act a Set Up

A quick update on the status of the Patriot Act renewal:

As Senator Russ Feingold led a last-ditch effort to defend American liberty against the abuses still contained in the Patriot Act’s latest, Republican-approved version, Republican Senator Bill Frist lashed out and declared:

“The outcome here is absolutely predetermined. It’s going to pass with overwhelming support.”

Oh, dearie me.

The outcome of a vote in the United States Senate is predetermined? By who, Senator Frist? Who has the power to give orders to Republican senators, and what other Republican votes have been predetermined?

    I’m meminded of a lesson in a History class years ago. We had a former member of the Reichstag (circa 1932), who told us of the packing of the chambers with Brownshirts; who shouted down any and all political opposition with party slogans. Sounds eeriely familiar, doesn’t it? Those who fail to learn the lessons of History are condemned to repeat them…
