![]() | Ned Lamont is My Friend: Update on MySpace |
It has been a month and a half now since I first made my foray into that online refuge of the young and excited, MySpace. Setting up my own MySpace space, I had higher interests than mere breeding in mind. I was hoping for something a bit more idealistic - using MySpace as a means for political networking.
How is it working out? There’s some good and some bad. I’ve got ten “friends” on MySpace now, and most of them I don’t really know, but they’re political allies. I have reported already how I got Russ Feingold as a MySpace friend, although Representative Louise Slaughter didn’t seem to want anything to do with me. My newest friend on MySpace is Ned Lamont, the progressive Democrat is who running a grassroots primary campaign against right wing Senator Joseph Lieberman.
It’s a little thing, but I feel good knowing that I can pitch in with my little endorsement of these two progressive politicians, just by listing them as my friends. The whole language of “friends” though, feels a little bit silly at this level. I wonder - could the MySpace people launch a separate portal for their network - this one for adults, called MyConnections, perhaps?
If you’ve got a MySpace space, I encourage to get on the system and add Feingold and Lamont as friends - and give me a look as well. As with the Internet in general, every connection counts.

Maybe you should add a few more photos to your MYSPACE space.
