Right Wing Christians: Professors are Dangerous!

Yesterday, Jim wrote an book review that included a discussion of who the most dangerous people in America are. Jim concluded that the most dangerous people are those who have the power to put dangerous ideas into action. He wrote, “I happen to think that the most dangerous people in America, the people who are really, really, most strongly screwing America are those people who have their hands on the reins of power and use that power to negatively impact the course of other people’s lives, or even the nation, in a practical, observable, empirical way.”

Well, the Christians of the Religious Right beg to differ with Jim. They have a different idea of who’s really dangerous in America: Professors.

That’s right – right wing Christian organizations are out there trying to convince their members that it is professors, you know, people who teach courses at colleges and universities, who are among the most dangerous people in America. That’s why the Christian Broadcasting Network is compiling a list of the 101 most dangerous professors in America.

Why are professors dangerous to the Religious Right? Must you ask? Professors don’t just give their students information – they provide their students with the intellectual tools they need to learn to think for themselves. There is nothing more threatening to religious fundamentalists than that.

Professors: If you made it onto this list, be proud. It means that you’re doing your job of thinking free of the theocratic reins and blinders that America’s most dangerous churches would like to fasten over your head and neck.

Hey, man. You need to take the danger of liberal professors more seriously! I mean, you know, um, my sister has a cousin whose mother once knew a guy who went to Southwest Missouri State University and stuff, and he took a class from a professor, and one day the professor just stood up and said, “I am a FRICKIN Liberal! Die, conservative Jesus lovers!” And then he took a knife and stabbed some girl just because she was wearing a crucifix! These liberal professors are dangerous people. Danger! Danger!

Danger, terror, mayhem! Brought to you continually since 9/11 by the Republican spin machine, with a lot of help from the “liberal” press . . . Meanwhile it’s their mishaps, bungling and outright lying to us that have gotten us into this mess we’re in (and will remain in for quite some time, no matter who’s elected).

This is the true story of my life. I was born to a decent, conforming Republican family in that abortion-denying state of South Dakota. When I was 18, I first came in contact with the aforementioned liberal professors. Within one semester I was caucusing with the Democrats, campaigning for a Democratic state senator, and worst of all, voting for McGovern. My life has been ruined and my relationship with my family will never be the same. Don’t let this happen in YOUR family.

Apparently the American professors aren’t nearly as dangerous as the Iraqi ones. There have now been enough murders of Iraqi professors to compile statistics about trends.
