Telemarketing Counterscript: Toss the Bureaucracy Right Back In Their Face (and have a laugh to boot)

In the wake of yesterday’s “We Need Your Social Security Number” fiasco of a McDonaldized interaction, I am reminded of EGBG’s hilarious anti-telemarketing counterscript. It is a flowcharted script just like the ones that telemarketers follow, except that you are the one asking questions, and they are the ones giving answers. It’s on the face of it a silly thing to do, but I really think it’s kind of liberating. We’re so used to behaving on their terms, aren’t we? They depend on us to abide by the terms of a pleasant conversation, which they abuse and violate themselves. But they’re calling you, so why can’t you turn the tables? Why not? What if every conversation with a corporate entity turned the tables in such a way?

Wee hee. Give it a try; at the very least, you’ll have fun and shake a few of your old neurons loose again. At the most, you might start seeing the world in a new way.
