Where’s that Mideast Peace The Bushies Kept Talking About?

You know, back when they were boosting a war in Iraq, Bush administration officials and their apologists asserted that going to war against Iraq would lead to the spread of peace across the Mideast.

I don’t hear anyone hawking that line this week.

  1. Alan says:

” ”Maybe we do stir the pot and see what comes up,” one US official said.”

Apparently this has been the real strategy all along, not looking for WMD.

“After an ouster of Hussein, they say, the United States will have more leverage to act against Syria and Iran, will be in a better position to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and will be able to rely less on Saudi oil.”

Today the U.S. ambassador to Iraq said the Iranian government provides $100 million a year to Hizbollah in Lebanon. Iran also supports Hamas in Gaza. Both are currently lobbing missiles into Israel. Are we now seeing a proxy war against Israel by Iran? And opinion in Jordan is lamenting the encircling crescent of Iranian-based Shiite influence around their Sunni country.
