Bill Moyers for President Rocks the Blogosphere

This morning, Yo.Be, a longtime reader of Irregular Times, passed the word on to us of Molly Ivins’s proposal that journalist Bill Moyers run for President in 2008.

Progressive? Yup. Public policy experience in the White House? Yup. Great communicator? Yup. Willing to speak truth to power? Yup.

Bill Moyers for President sure sounds like a good idea to me. So, let’s run with this puppy and make it reality.

What can we do? Well, Molly Ivins suggests that we write to Bill Moyers and ask him to campaign at PO Box 309, Bernardsville, NJ, 07924. But, of course, that’s just a start. Any good Draft Moyers campaign will need a street presence. So, tonight, I’m working on creating a store of Bill Moyers for President campaign buttons and bumper stickers. A web presence is also a must, and so tomorrow morning I’ll start work on a Draft Bill Moyers activist web center here on Irregular Times.

More on this to come.

In the meantime, check out what others on the blogosphere are saying about the idea of Bill Moyers running for President in 2008:

  • Dr. Bruce Prescott of the Mainstream Oklahoma Baptists says he thinks a Bill Moyers for President campaign could be a reality.
  • The Marshall News Messenger says of the prospect of its hometown boy and Marshall High School graduate running for President “by way of this column we’re letting him know that he could do his country a service by just considering it. Certainly he could bring a seriousness to the Democratic Party that has long been lacking.”
  • The courageously-titled blog God is for Suckers asks the question, “Don’t you wish more Christians and more Texans were like these two?”
  • Wasp Blog merely says of the idea of Moyers for President, “Sounds good to me.”
  • B12 Partners Sollipsism writes, “I tell you what, I’d vote for the man in a second over Ms. Clinton, John Edwards, Kerry, Mark Warner, and the rest of the tweedle-dums. Feingold could be his VP….”
  • ProfMarcus shows the passion activated by the idea of Moyers for President, writing, “this is so brilliant, it positively shines with its own light… without exaggerating a whit, i would drop everything to go to work to get this man elected.”
  • Bad Attitudes expresses shock at the idea of a presidential campaign based on idealism, saying, “Imagine a campaign including the candidates’ actual positions and opinions. Now that would be novel.”
  • A Monkey at Livejournal says, “he’d have my vote”, as does Livejournal’s Cyber Curmudgeon.
  • Sasha Undercover proudly points out that she proposed the idea of Bill Moyers for President way back in February.

    1. Back in May of 2005, when I suggested Bill Moyers for President, someone named Jim left a comment about a website called “Bill Moyers for President”. Apparently, Mr. Moyers asked the site to shut down.
