Carter for President? Senate First.

A few weeks ago, Jack Carter, the son of former President Jimmy Carter, started his campaign to join the United States Senate, representing the state of Nevada. At the time, Carter’s web site had little information about what kind of Democrat he really is. In this time when progressive Democrats are having to struggle against right wingers like Joseph Lieberman, it’s best to wait and see what any Democrat is really all about. Clearly, just being a Democrat is not enough.

Now, Jack Carter has placed statements describing his positions on many issues on his campaign web site. I like what I see.

Carter is pro-choice and favors stem cell research. Carter supports equal partnership rights for all couples, though he quibbles on the use of the word “marriage”. He supports the kind of alternative energy initiatives his father promoted long ago. Most importantly, on Iraq, Carter took the right position from the beginning: “I was against the invasion and the war before it started.”

Jack Carter looks like the kind of Democrat that we need in the United States Senate. If you live in Nevada, please give him a hand.
