This morning, I came across Cal Thomas’ latest column, which opens with the following thought:
The narrow primary defeat of veteran senator Joe Lieberman in Connecticut’s Democratic primary is more than a loss for one man. It is a loss for his party and for the country. It completes the capture of the Democratic Party by its Taliban wing.
They used to be “San Francisco Democrats,†a phrase coined by Jeane Kirkpatrick, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, to describe the party’s 1984 convention. But they have now morphed into Taliban Democrats because they are willing to kill one of their own if he does not conform to the narrow and rigid agenda of the party’s kook fringe.
Taliban Democrats? Killing?
Let’s ignore for the moment the inadvertent claim that Joseph Lieberman is (“one of their own”) himself a Taliban Democrat. Cal Thomas has just accused the people of Connecticut of being “Taliban Democrats” for the unforgivable terrorist act of … voting in an election. Lieberman wasn’t “killed”; he got fewer votes than someone else.
You know, this is just my two cents and all, but it seems to me that a columnist who can’t tell the difference between a terrorist theocracy and a primary election, who can’t tell the difference between a murder and a vote, might not want to run around tossing off phrases like “kook fringe.”
So the Rethuglican war drums are starting already. Great. More of the same insanity or you’re a terrorist garbage. They can all just stuff it. i think all the Lieberman loss showed was how out of touch the Democrats are. The “victor” was still a white rich boy. When are we going to give up on the elitist aristocracy running the show to benefit themselves? As soon as we get the lobbyists and media attack ads out of politics. Won’t be anytime soon, eh?
Somehow, I really don’t think that the current crop of Democrat candidates are going to counter this new blast of propaganda by pointing out the truth: The Republinazis’ main source of popular support seems to come from the people that could accurately be described as “Christian Taliban”. It isn’t out of pure gutlessness…they just think they’d be committing political suicide. And they’d be right.
Cal Thomas…boy, there’s a real piece of work. I read Cal Thomas every time he’s in our local rag for two reasons:1 he and that Coulter creature are speaking what a lot of people only think and that’s handy information if you get feeling too warm and fuzzy in our “democracy”, and 2 it helps me limit my food intake and stick to my diet. Queasiness and nausia are a big help with that.
Cal Thomas and the Taliban. If you read him at all you soon find out that it’s a ‘takes one to know one’ sort of thing.
Very insecure guy, our Cal. Just watcch and listen to him on C-SPAN. Takes himself very seriously, does Cal. When my son was hospitalised from his Iraq service and I went down to Bethesda to see him I had a bleeding episode which put me two wards away for a couple of days. I put down that I was an atheist and didn’t need or want a visit from any chaplain. I got one anyway, a Budhist gentleman. Had a nice chat, and he said I was quite knowledgeable for an atheist and westerner. I made a joke: told him I ought to know a lot as I’d spent time in a Budhist monastary before they threw me out. (No, I was never in a Budhist monastary, just part of the joke) He asked, Why did they throw you out? I said it was my poor work habits, they called me a ‘Lazy Bonz’. He laughed for a good ten minutes. Savage, Thomas, Coulter, Hannity, O’Reilly, I doubt the reaction you’d get was a laugh from scared, pathetic pukes like them.
