What a Republican Wrote About Iraq in 2005

In reviewing the new study published in the Lancet that finds that between 400,000 and 800,000 people had been killed as a result of the American invasion and occupation of Iraq by the middle of this summer, I came across an old article Tracy wrote back in 2005 about the original research by the same team – back in 2004, they found that approximately 100,000 Iraqis had been killed.

After that article, I found the following charming comment by Hoosier Texan, a Republican who used come on Irregular Times and badger people for being disloyal to George W. Bush. Hoosier wrote:

“Many of the people there have greeted us as liberators. Do you not read or watch the news. My cousin just went back there. He has been there from the beginning. So I get my news first hand. He also says that all the negative press that is reported here about it is very biased and no the way it is everywhere over in Iraq.”

All that negative press about Iraq is just biased, huh? Remember back in 2005, how the official Republican line was that everything was just fine in Iraq? I wonder how they could explain those claims now?

Oh, silly me. How could I forget? The Republicans don’t explain when they make a mistake. They just come up with a new version of reality to suit their political needs.
