Movie Madness: Republican Sock Puppetry Amok

Republican Sock Puppet Letter Plagiarism MovieOn October 6, 2006 the following letter to the editor appeared in the Daily Independent of Ashland, Kentucky, claiming to be “written” by Karolyn R. McNeely of Huntington, West Virginia:

America’s growing economy requires a flexible, highly skilled workforce, and President Bush is committed to providing American workers with the training that they need to succeed.

President Bush has put forth an ambitious agenda to ensure that America’s economy remains the most prosperous in the world, and he believes we must ensure every adult can access the training necessary to close the skills gap in America.

Funny thing, but the exact same letter appears on an official website of the Republican Party, a website that encourages Republican followers to send off these letters to local newspapers and fraudulently claim that they, not the Republican Party, wrote it.

Republican plagiarism is all the rage. Letters like these have popped up all over the country during the past year. Maybe that’s why, now that George W. Bush has started trying to read the newspapers, Mr. Bush still thinks he and the Republicans are wildly popular!

Our president may be fooled, but then again he’s played the fool oh so many times. The important thing is that our fellow citizens not be fooled. Spread the word: when you read a pro-Bush letter to the editor, chances are pretty good that it’s a plant, a fake. A lie.

Someone explain to me those Republican moral values again.
