Forbes Welcome Screen Applied At Home

I was looking for a particular news article just a few minutes ago when I found a link to it over at the web site for Forbes, the business news magazine that launched eccentric Steve Forbes on a presidential campaign a few years back, touting the terrible idea of a flat tax. It’s not the kind of place that I like to hang out, but I wanted the information, so I clicked.

What I got was not the news article, but a “welcome page” which consisted of an advertisement for some obnoxious thing that I didn’t even look at. Then, I got to the actual article, which was framed by blinking, fluttering advertisements all around.

Well, it made me realize that I’m missing out on a big opportunity to make some extra money. I’m going to apply the Forbes.com business model to my home. From now on, whenever friends come over, before they can come in the door, they’re going to be required to listen to a welcome message, maybe a message about Archer Daniels Midland, or about the benefits (and potential side effects) of the latest pharmaceutcal – depending on which company pays the highest amount. Then, inside my house, instead of wallpaper, I’ll have advertisements. I’ll sell the space on my walls by the cubic inch. When my guests turn on the stereo, they’ll be able to listen to music, but only after a few messages from my sponsors.

If Forbes can do it, why can’t I?

How are you going to see wallpaper space by the cubic inch? Do you have 3D wallpaper?
