Hundreds Protest For Impeachment Outside New Congress

There is nary a peep about it from the mainstream media today, but yesterday, hundreds of people protested outside of Congress yesterday, demanding that the new Democratic majority move to impeach President. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has insisted that impeachment is “off the table”, and has convinced even Democrats like Representative John Conyers to abandon their efforts to impeach Bush.

Most Americans doesn’t know about the protest, and wouldn’t give much thought to it if they did know about it. In fact, America’s attention seems to have moved quite solidly away from things political. Technorati shows that while a large number of blog posts are being written about subjects like the Democrats taking over Congress, the Iraq War, and President Bush, readers who are searching for blogs to look at are most concerned with finding Saddam Hussein’s execution video, gossip about Britney Spears, and a movie of a Brazilian model on a beach that was recently removed from YouTube.

It’s a terrible thing to see happen, but it seems that Americans aren’t just sick of Bush. They’re sick of being sick of Bush. They’re sick of paying attention. It seems that the world will have to wait, as Americans are content to merely run out the clock on President Bush’s terrible presidency, averting their eyes and thinking of Barack Obama.
