This week, Illinois Senator Barack Obama will file with the FEC as a candidate intending to run for president. He’ll set up his exploratory committee, and all systems will be go.
As is typical with presidential campaigns, he will make his official declaration later, in order to have another “event.” John Kerry and John Edwards did it in 2004, and Chris Dodd and Tom Vilsack have done it this time around. But according to this story, Obama’s staffers make it clear that he will make his first public declaration of his intention to run for president this week.
The Rush Limbaugh show’s mature and reasoned reaction:
Dumb? Dumb? Insult Barack Obama if you will, but come on, Mr. Limbaugh. Barack Obama is not dumb.

I love the Liberal way of re-naming socialists as being “progressives.” Rush had problems with legal pain killers, and you him a brown-bottle junkie. Obama used illegal drugs, and he is called “enlightened” and “refreshing.” You people are nuts. Stop standing on your heads and telling intelligent people they are upside down.

As someone with a blog, you should know by now that people who comment are different from people who write the blog. “Brown-bottle junkie” is Mike’s phrase, not all of ours. Going way back, we have wished Rush Limbaugh luck dealing with his long-term addiction problems, while harshly criticizing his policy positions on the “Drug War” (lesson: always use the word “War” when you plan on locking people up). Barack Obama experimented with drugs with no evidence of addiction, at a much younger age than Rush Limbaugh, and he took care of the problem on his own and put them aside. Then he publicly disclosed his history without prompting or threat. Limbaugh didn’t stop until he was confronted by the law, and did his best to avoid public disclosure. You can draw your own lessons from that comparison, MWK, but you can’t realistically say that we’ve personally harshed on Limbaugh for his drug use.
The “socialist” remark is really too ignorant to even begin responding to. Read a book.
