“It’s not funny.” — Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick
But yes, yes it is funny. It’s really funny. Boston media reports:
At least nine electronic devices planted at bridges and other spots in Boston threw a scare into the city Wednesday in what a cable network said was a marketing campaign for a late-night cartoon.
Highways, bridges and a section of the Charles River were shut down and bomb squads were sent in before authorities declared the devices were harmless….
At least some of the devices resemble one of the villains on “Aqua Teen,” part of Cartoon Network’s late-night Adult Swim lineup. (The green character in the picture).
The show follows the misadventures of a carton of french fries, a milkshake and a wad of hamburger meat who live together in a run-down suburban house.
It’s super-funny when advertisements for a cartoon starring hamburger meat are mistaken for bombs. It’s funny because… well, because it’s a picture of a wad of hamburger meat (or is that a carton of fries?)! It’s funny because it shows how panicky we’ve all gotten, so panicky that we’ll turn a wad of hamburger meat (or is that a milkshake?) into a full-fledged terrorist attack.
Governor Patrick insists that we all pretend this isn’t as funny as it is, because if we all start laughing in the face of baseless fears, then…
… then …
… then what?
Highways, bridges and a section of the Charles River were shut down and bomb squads were sent in before authorities declared the devices were harmless….
It’s embarrassing. The same marketing campaign went on all over the country, but only here were people dumb enough to think they were bombs.
The sad thing is that the real security in Boston is pathetic. Three of the four planes used in the 9/11 attack came from Logan airport. I have been through a lot of airport securitiy worldwide and post-9/11 Logan is easily the worst. Now if only Manchester, NH airport had decent inter-state public transportation.
They should’v done more reserch on The boxes befor jumpping to conclusions!
It’s AQUA TEEN HUNGERFORCE, people! Come on now! Bombs?!?!?
