"The secret of ugliness consists not in irregularity, but in being uninteresting." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

The writings of white supremacist shooter James Von Brunn on Free Republic, and right-wing readers' positive reaction to his writings, is mirrored here for historical reference. Free Republic has taken the post down, trying to shove it down the memory hole.

Read the Google Cache of the "Arizona Sentinel" blog cut-and-paste hack job that right-wingers are claiming "proves" that Barack Obama applied to Occidental College as a foreigner. As you'll see with a quick read and the most minimal effort to find the faked sources referred to within, it's a hoax. Also a hoax, therefore, is the claim by right-wingers that the "Arizona Sentinel" is a newspaper website taken down by The Man because conspiracy theorists were TOO CLOSE to the truth! See here for a debunking of the fake "article."

Had it up to here with the silence of the Speaker of the House during years and years of U.S. Government torture? Then shout it to the highest clouds: Nancy Pelosi, Resign!

Unity08 Fails to Meet Money Standard it Demands of Others

Yesterday, I wrote about a new, more accurate understanding I’d reached about Unity08’s disclosure statements: with factually corrected IRS reports are finally in, each report now contains a contribution line under the name “Withheld” that seems to be the sum of all donations under $200 for the period.

With this information in mind, we can look at Unity08’s Clean Money Pledge in action. This Clean Money Pledge (see here, under Question #21) asks citizens to declare they won’t support a presidential campaign that raises more than half its money from donations of more than $250. Unity08 has sent letters to the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates, asking them to commit to only take half their money from donations of more than $250.

Has Unity08 met its own clean money pledge?

In the 4th Quarter of 2006, Unity08 reports taking in $24,620 in donations of $250 or less — and $282,300 in donations of more than $250. Result: 92% of Unity08’s 4th Quarter money came from donors of more than $250. CLEAN MONEY PLEDGE FAILED in 4th Quarter 2006.

In the 3rd Quarter of 2006, Unity08 reports taking in $32,252 in donations of $250 or less — and $39,600 in donations of more than $250. Result: 55% of Unity08’s 3rd Quarter money come from donors of more than $250. CLEAN MONEY PLEDGE FAILED in 3rd Quarter 2006.

In the 2nd Quarter of 2006, Unity08 reports taking in $23,495 in donations of $250 or less — and $49,264 in donations of more than $250. Result: 68% of Unity08’s 2nd Quarter money came from donors of more than $250. CLEAN MONEY PLEDGE FAILED in 2nd Quarter 2006.

That’s all the reports. (since Unity08 was incorporated in the 2nd Quarter of 2006, reports don’t of course go back any earlier). In the year of 2006 taken all together, Unity08 reports taking in $80,367 in donations of $250 or less — and $371,164 in donations of more than $250. Result: 82% of Unity08’s 2006 donation money came from donors of more than $250. CLEAN MONEY PLEDGE FAILED in 2006.

Is this why Unity08 yesterday deleted any reference to its Clean Money Pledge from its front page? Facts are such divisive, partisan things.
