Celebrate Darwin’s Day Today!

scientist light bulb brightIf I was a right wing activist, I would accuse Kmart of waging a war against Darwin Day just because Kmart employees aren’t greeting people today by saying “Happy Darwin Day”! Of course, I’m not a right wing activist, and so I’m not uptight. I don’t require stores to commercialize my holidays. I’m content to celebrate all on my own.

I do encourage you to participate in Darwin Day celebrations today and this week, however. Darwin Day stands for more than just the birthday of Charles Darwin, you see. Darwin Day also celebrates the value of using our intelligence to come up with solutions to our problems, rather than just doing what feels good and believing what we’ve been told. Darwin Day celebrates the importance of high standards of evidence, rather than just following our prejudices toward what we want to believe is true. Darwin Day celebrates the power of individuals to discover new things about the world, and to spread news of their discovery free of religious censorship. Darwin Day celebrates our ability to adapt to changing conditions, as will be required by the climate change we are currently undergoing.

There are Darwin Day celebrations going on all over the world today. For a short list of events in places ranging from Australia all the way to Wyoming, check the Darwin Day web site for details.

Darwin day, climate change, adaptation ?? Celebration of a total fallacy?
Better stick with the Scriptural itinerary !!!

Scriptural itinerary? You mean the itinerary in the script for the Muppet Movie, in which the characters go to Hollywood?

There are so many scripts, Mr. C., that you need to be more specific. Which script do you mean? An Inconvenient Truth? Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy?
