Newstalkers are all aflutter with the word that John McCain has blamed Donald Rumsfeld’s mismanagement for messing up the war in Iraq. This statement, of a Republican turning against a Republican, is supposed to startle us because it shows that John McCain is an independent who understands the depth of the Iraq War disaster. The thing is, that’s not at all what this statement shows us. John McCain’s attack on Donald Rumsfeld shows that he still doesn’t get it when it comes to the Iraq War.
The problem with the Iraq War is not that it was mismanaged. The problem with the Iraq War is that it was started in the first place. The entire war was a tremendously stupid idea. You can remanage the war all you like, but you can’t make it a good idea.
Part of the idea of the Iraq War came from Donald Rumsfeld, sure. But that’s not where the real blame lies. The real blame lies with President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. They’re the ones who led the rush to start a war in Iraq.
Guess who went right along with them, cheerleading all the way: Senator John McCain. McCain got it wrong about Iraq then, and McCain is getting it wrong about Iraq again. McCain is now promoting the idea that the USA can just fix the Iraq War by throwing more soldiers at it. Make the Iraq War even bigger, McCain says, and everything will turn out swell.
Are you willing to send your children to test out McCain’s theory?
Clue to Senator McCain: Criticizing the ineptitude of Donald Rumsfeld won’t help you win the Republican nomination. Why? You helped the push to confirm Donald Rumsfeld as Secretary of Defense in the first place, Senator McCain.
No one gets it…. Including me….
Why is it that high gas milage cars are so damn boring??
Why is it that when an auto maker designs and builds a vehicle that gets more than 20 MPG it is an ugly, low quality, poor handling, under powered, break down weekly piece of crap.
I love hot rods, muscle cars, 4X4′s, HUMMERS!!! GIVE ME A HUMMER THAT GETS BETTER THAN 12 MPG !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know it can be done. I recently sold a 2001 GMC Yukon Denali XL with a 6.0 litre that got 15 MPG the way GM sent it out of the factory and after installing a K&N filter and fresh air tubes to the lower grill (Ram Air style like came on older GM muscle cars), A 3 inch stainless exhaust with a 90 series FlowMaster muffler, and replaced the HEAVY Michelins with lighter weight BF Goodrich tires (same size and service description, but 15 lbs lighter) the truck got 21-23 MPG. I am a lead foot, would likely get 25 MPG with the average driver.
I recently looked at the H3 Hummer (just because I like macho ego maniac vehicles, thats why) with the initial thought that I love the “attitude” a Hummer has, but wanted to be a little thoughtful of the planet (Ok, not that thoughtful). I went away disgusted.
For a mere $40,000.00 it is a vehicle that does nothing right. It is underpowered, to small inside, noisy, poor handling, buzzy engine, cheap feeling, no real towing capability, no real 4X4 capability (I saw your BS test GM, come to my neck of the woods and see if that works), Last but not least, HORRIBLE GAS MILAGE!!!!! What was the point of this thing????????
What the H3 COULD have been: Redesigned 4.3 litre block with 4 valves per cylinder and overhead cams, TBI and Ram Air, shift on the fly transfer case, auto locking hubs, electric locking axels, real world 4X4. Instead of a full frame (heavy, expensive) a re-inforced uni-body design with front and rear sub frames to handle stress of off road and towing, unitized (strut style) front rear suspensions with heavier steering and dampening systems to keep them from coming apart at the first rock you have to crawl over. Fewer gadgets of a better quality, your buyers for this thing are not the Escalade set, they are the Jeep set. With the weight savings (400-500 Lbs) and the more efficient drive train the H3 would EASILY GET 25+ MPG and still fall in the $40,000.00 range. Your not even trying yet.
2006 Ford F-150 5.4 King Ranch (one of my current rides) Macho good looks, decent quality Tow setting and all of 15 MPG. Gearing on this truck is horrible, why no 6 peed Auto? Why no 2 position Overdrive with the towing switch to disengage the low gear and top Overdrive. Just that one little change transmission change would net 20 MPG for the average owner. Not even trying.
2006 GMC Envoy Denali XL, 5.3 litre AWD, was my wifes ride. 15 MPG !!! more complaints than time to list them. Here are the high lights, 15 MPG, POOR POWER (“everything works as designed, that is what we see” said GM repair shops- plural as in 2 different shops), 15 MPG, AWD got stuck in 4 inches of snow when 3 months old and had to be pulled out by the baby sitters Honda mini van. RIGHT ON GM !!!! 15 MPG, Oh yeah, did I mention 15 MILES TO THE F#@KING GALLON??? Wife traded after 7 months and took a $16,000.00 loss. Gotta love it.
Why no cool cars getting 30 MPG, 40 MPG. I got kids man, I can’t stuff the 5 of us in a PRIUS. With gas milage in the teens maybe I should just get a Winnebago.
Sincerely,

You obviously haven’t driven a Prius. The car’s interior is designed ergonomically, and the hybrid battery system gives the car more pickup and acceleration ability than you think it should have. Add the in-dash computer and it’s a really fun drive.
After you get out of car seat mode with the kids, you can fit five in there, actually.
Motorhead, not to worry. Al bore will have us all dead any day now, with the global warming he invented!!
