I have decided to begin a practice of writing one letter a day, to the editor of a newspaper, to a politician, or to the leadership of some other powerful institution. Today’s letter goes to the editor of the Columbus Dispatch and regards Upper Arlington’s decision to effectively ban sex offenders from its territory:
I was perplexed to read that Upper Arlington passed a law banning sex offenders from living or working there on the principle that “If it saves one kid, it’s worth it.” Surely the well-educated people of Upper Arlington do not think that sex offenders will simply leave the planet’s surface when kicked out of their suburb. No, they will move on to places like Columbus, where my children live. I have always suspected that my children are not “worth” as much as Upper Arlington children; this confirms it. Upper Arlington may want to consider constructing a border fence to keep the unsavories out, or perhaps padded cells for their kids to live within. After all, “If it saves one kid, it’s worth it!”
Just came across this article today. I am suprised this type of ban is allowed. it is very unconstitutional. There is no question about it

As a former local youth growing up in Upper Arlington, I have to agree with banning or doing whatever they want to do with child molesters or sex offenders. A teacher at Jones Jr. High School molested me in the 9th grade and to this day I do not think anything was really done about it. He also molested several other students and UA kids. Maybe someone should ask the UA City Council to explain what they ever did about the Jones Jr. High School English Teacher. Mayber they should have been as concerned back then as much as they are today.
