Every time I set myself down to write directly about the current brouhaha over the firing of U.S. Attorneys, I find myself unable to get past the first paragraph. There is the issue of the White House lying about the issue and the seemingly endless revisions of the truth on the matter. But under current law, the Bush administration has the discretion to fire U.S. Attorneys for any reason. Then again, simply because an action is legal doesn’t mean it’s right. On the fourth hand, this would suggest that the remedy for the current problem is to change the law, not to change the officeholders. And why is it that Alberto Gonzales is coming under fire for being involved in the firing of U.S. Attorneys, but there hasn’t been a peep over Gonzales’ declaration that warrantless wiretapping of phone calls between Americans is reasonable, or his justification of torture as an instrument of American policy?
Nope, I’m not ashamed to say that the complexity of the U.S. Attorney firings case has me flummoxed. I need some help to figure it out. How would you describe the central features of this emerging story? What’s going on here that matters, if anything? Is this an important story in its own right, or just a tempest in a partisan teapot?
Same crap, different day. Until the Bush administration is run out of town or imprisoned, we’re going to get scandal after scandal and our rights will erode away ever further.
If congress doesn’t slap this guy around for totally screwing up democracy and burying us in debt, we’re going to suffer until he’s gone, and the clean-up will take a long time. Just getting us back to the democratic process will be a monumental task! Combine that with digging out of record debt and you get an idea just how long we’re talking about.
OK, Tom, but what is your opinion of the U.S. Attorney firings? It’s not the same crap. It’s different crap.
Tom you ignorant slut. Name one right you have lost? Please be specific. Why no political bullshit witch hunt when billiary fired how many? 92? when he first corrupted the office of prez? Can you answer that for me Tom?
You mistake this for a pro-Clinton blog, Phil. It isn’t.
Americans have lost their rights under the 4th amendment against search and seizure without a warrant, for just one instance.
Now would you care to comment in detail about the U.S. Attorneys being fired, Phil? You have a stage, as you have clearly figured out. Would you like to say something besides MUWAHAHAHAHA? Or is that all you’ve got?
No Jim, I didn’t say anything about it being pro clinton. I’m asking why wasn’t there a witch hunt when billiary fired all those attorneys?
Do you know some one who has had their 4th amendment violated Jim? Do you have a link to the story, I’d be really interested.
Oh my comment on the attorney’s being fired. They weren’t doing there jobs the way their boss thought the ought to, so they were sacked. Happens everyday, except in france.
Every phone user in the country who is under contract with Bell South, Verizon or AT&T, to start with.
Your a paranoid putz jimbo “like the others who agreed to talk about the NSA’s activities, declined to be identified by name or affiliation” more libshitz scare tactics. Where’s the lawsuits? Hmmmm?
Your show is getting old, Phil. “Putz” isn’t a retort. And there are lawsuits, as even a cursory search by you would have uncovered. Here’s one. Here’s another.
Jim, what about billiary firing 92 attorneys? Why no political outcry? No subpoena’s? What gives??
You libshitz have been “OWNED” by Bush since he took office. He’s such a dolt, and yet you clowns can never defeat him. What does that say about you idiots? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
MUWHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA
Your paranoia of Bush is what is getting old Jim. That article was from over a year ago. What has happened since? Jim, grow a pair or move to france will ya junior1
What on earth is a paranoid putz jimbobilliaryprezmore libshitz scare tactics? And why is this guy talking in jingos? Is this some yet undocumented form of Newspeak?
Anon, I ask you, why not political witch hunt when billiary clintoon fired those 92 attorneys?
ANON you stupid fucking nigger, you going to answer my question?
Read the second link, Phil, for something from this year. Then go research the subject further yourself. Reading is good for your brain. It might prevent you from referring to everyone you disagree with as either a “putz” or a “stupid fucking nigger.” And then people might stop crossing the street to avoid you.
Oh, grow up Phil. Do you think anyone is impressed that you can type the word “slut” or “putz”? Okay you typed them, now what? Are you trying to prove you are a Real Man by typing a bunch of hostile insults? Ohhh! Hostility! I am so impressed. If this is what conservatives act like, no wonder the country is such a mess.
Still no answer huh jim? Imagine that. A libshitz with nothing but gloom’n'doom vast right wing conspiracy paranoia with nothing to back it up.
Geeeeshhhh!
Iroq, how much of a mess is this country? I’m living pretty damn good. I work hard, make a good wage, have all the essentials and then some. Are you living off the American tit, so it looks like a mess from your point of view??
I gave you two links, both of which provide what you ask for. You, on the other hand, aren’t providing anything.
So why did billiary fire those 92 attorneys again??? I missed that in the 2 links.
Can anyone of you self-righteous socialist putz’s tell me why billiary clintoon fired those 92 attorneys? Anyone? Ralph? Tom? Jim? Hare the dyke?
What is this guy talking about? Does he speak English or is he just in his own little world? Clearly he hasn’t bothered to google any of the questions he is asking, try to inform himself on the issues, form a coherent thought, or even spell anything correctly.
Description of Billiary
Billiary: Refering to bile, gallbladder or bile ducts.

Not a one huh? MUWHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAA!! TURN OFF your computers we are in a planetary crisis!!! Al bore said!!!
Okay here is what numbnuts is talking about
http://sweetness-light.com/archive/flashback-attorney-general-reno-seeks-resignations-from-prosecutors-nyt-1993
and that was in 1993 – when Clintons first term started, please correct me if I am wrong Jim, but these Attorneys had already served their 4 year term and can be replaced at the pleasure of the incoming president. Did the Bush admin. do the same thing when they took office?
yes, it is customary for presidents to hire their selected attorneys when their term in office starts, which is what bill did in 93, and W in 01. however, firing attorneys in the middle of their term of service is unprecedented, especially when several of them were in the top 10 for prosecutions and convictions. the claim that they werent good at their job is an obvious lie
Well Phil, for starters, Clinton didn’t try to cover up the firings or lie about them. He didn’t have a secret government, toss habeus corpus out the window and become a veritable dictator. If you can’t see the difference, you’re a political moron. It’s idiots like you that got this country into this mess by voting for the god damn gestapo. So enjoy it when the environment is toast and your grandchildren are still paying off the debt your buddy Bush incurred during his term. But of course you don’t care about any of that, right? Nah, let’s keep bringing up Clinton and just ignore the fact that the government isn’t working as it was designed and that the mounting debt is way beyond anything we can sustain.
Y’know, Phil, I’ve been visiting this site for quite a while now…lots of times I’ve disagreed with many of the opinions here (as anybody here will tell you, I might add), but NEVER have I, or anyone else stooped to name-calling,,especially with the vile names you have used in this particular line of attack…and, yes. you have verbally attacked many good, decent folks here with your language. So, rather than trying to speak reasonably with you, I’ll just say “SHUT UP!” and let it go at that….On second thought, no, I won’t. You succeeded in pissing me off. I figure that somebody who uses the word “nigger” in this day and age is probably either an ignoramus or an “agent provocateur” from the Far Right. And I really don’t have the time or the inclination to bandy words with you. If you don’t know how to disagree without being disagreeable, perhaps it is time you learned how. By the bye, if you wish to impugn my patriotism, be advised that I put 9 years into the US Armed Forces, at a time when most of the current crop of Republinazis were hiding behind their student deferments. So have many fellow Democrats. And, should you wish to question my personal life, as you did with a true lady (Ms. HareTrinity), forget it. I’m happily married to the woman of my dreams. Come on back any time…but DO try to keep a civil tongue in your head, Okay?
This U.S. Attorney thing seems to be a rapidly changing story with many angles yet to be explored. The website http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/ has been doing original investigative reporting on the issue and is quite succinct. Their readership has been reporting firings in the local news sources as they occur and they currently have 3000 pages of documents the readership is combing through collectively. The current buzz is whether there is an 18-day email gap in the records download. Here are some tidbits from today’s posts:
Don’t forget the Patriot Act also changed the law so the Attorney General could appoint U.S. Attorneys without Senate confirmation….now where are the checks and balances between the executive and judicial branches??? Yes, this is a matter for Congress.
#26 Mike fuck off!
#25, Tom you are a paranoid putz. More libshitz rhetoric with absolutely NOTHING to back it up!!
It’s up to the president to hire and fire the US attorney’s, case closed.
Sorry libshitz, Dubya bush slapped you again!
And as for “working hard” Phil, you have no idea. Picking crops is hard work (and doesn’t pay well), Most of us, if we’re honest (a trait you don’t happen to have), don’t work very hard and we’re paid handsomely. That’s the point of “civilization”. We’re supposed to have it easier than our ancestors from the Dark Ages. Pushing a pencil isn’t working hard. Now, i’m not going to tell you that lawyers, scientists, accountants etc. don’t have tough days and work relatively hard sometimes, but by and large, we have it easy.
After thinking about Phil’s verbal barrage and his stance on other issues, i’ve come to the conclusion that there’s a fundamental difference between these new right wing Republicans, who are far from those Republicans we learned about way back in history (since they had a brains and “heart” – ie. they actually cared about this country and its people), and the rest of us. They are selfish, mean spirited people who think the world (even the universe) is here for them to exploit, and anyone who gets in their way better watch out. i believe that they’ve forgotten why we’re here, and what a conscious being is supposed to be “doing” in the short stay we have on earth. Society has long ago gotten off the track and we’re about to learn the hard way why we can’t act independently or with no regard for the rest of the planet. i’m not sure we can converse with people who have no idea how amazing existence is.
I would like to apologize to everyone for my son Phil’s behavior. His dad was fired from his job this January, and Phil is still very young emotionally and is taking out his anger inappropriately at school and here, too. I’m sure you are all fine people and don’t deserve the mess he can make sometimes when he is acting out. But please be patient with him. I hope that this is just a phase and he will soon be my sunny Phil again. I have locked his access to the computer from home until he promises to be more responsible, but I can’t control what he does from school or the library. Please be patient. Godd bless.
Tom, look out for that melting ice berg!!!! Oh it’s okay, it’s going to fall on some niggers and ILLEGAL fucking spicks!
Phil’s Mom?? How original!! Hehhehehheee
“Why no political witch hunt?”
Of Bill Clinton?
Am I reading that right?
How could anyone possibly agree with the premises of the question?
On the attorney firing ralphie, on the attorney firing. On the other stuff, I guess it wasn’t really a witch hunt if billiary was impeached now was it?
When the hunter is doing the same thing as the huntee, and just as secretly, you have to wonder who is the real witch.
Naw, Newt Gingrich was always more of a hussy than a witch.
I didn’t know Newt lied to a grand jury? Why didn’t I hear about this?
Oh, he’s used goods all right, Jim, but that’s not what bothers me the most, although it probably bothers his family.
What bothers me is the immense public effort and expense of making public something that should have remained behind closed doors. All of that tax money and all of those lawyers and bureaucrats working feverishly for months on end, and for what? To eradicate world hunger? Maybe wipe out malaria in Africa? Educate our children? Just think what could have been done by focusing those public resources on just one of the problems facing our world or our nation. And it was used for what–to publicize a blow job. What a waste. And what a poor judgment call on the part of those who decided to waste the public treasury on that partisan bit of trash.
What annoys me even more is that these events had to be brought into my living room by these same people who claim to represent “family values.” Before Monicagate, what someone did behind closed doors stayed behind closed doors and I was all too happy not to hear about the tasteless details. Now suddenly that kind of stuff is okay to talk about in public. Since Gingrich’s little X-rated stunt, we now have stuff like televised wardrobe malfunctions, and you can’t even use public transportation without hearing the most graphic sexual vocabularies. I don’t remember kids screaming the F-word in the middle of the street ten years ago. And it all started with someone who decided that blue dresses and cigars were an appropriate topic for congressional deliberation.
Did Bush Firing Of Attorney Have To Do With Turning A Blind Eye To A Pedophile?
People In Washington State Are Wondering.
http://soundpolitics.com/archives/008252.html
Perhaps there are reasons behind why Bush fired these people. Perhaps these people are not as innocent as the Democrats are trying to portray them as being.
Dear Sweet Lack of Jesus, but that’s a stupid post you link to, Greg. I don’t use the word “stupid” very often, but that’s what it is. Stupid. And you should be embarrassed to forward it around. First, the lawyer referred to in that post is a County Prosecutor, not a U.S. Attorney. Second, that lawyer wasn’t the accused pedophile — the accused pedophile was a former accountant for the County Prosecutor who had embezzled from the County Prosecutor and was already thereby in hot water for that.
And then you cover for what is clearly a completely unrelated article with the handy “I’m just askin’” and “golly, folks is wunderin’” technique.
Goodness gracious, but you’re desperate to change the subject. Try doing it with something remotely related and not in the astral plane in the future.
