Death by Torture is Family Friendly, but not Love

You Don't Like Gay Marriage? Button I was just adding this button up to a shop we’re developing over at Zazzle, and stopped for a second when asked to provide a rating for it. You see, the folks who’ve designed Zazzle have put together a ratings system to filter out particular items. A G rating is for something we’d be comfortable having around the kids. You know, “family friendly.” PG-13 is for those who are teens and up, and R is for subjects suitable for adults only.

I paused when choosing a rating because I thought about our social consensus on what those ratings mean. The sign of a cross would be “G” material, and material on same-sex marriage would be at least a PG-13. But a cross is a torture implement, and same-sex marriage is about two people loving each other. It’s a funny thing that love is considered a more taboo subject than an implement of horrific death.

I rated this button G, because same-sex marriage is something I have talked about with my young kids. Love is a beautiful thing.
