Move to Draft Mark Green for President in 2008 Pops Up
This morning, I noticed the arrival of a website promoting a movement to Draft Mark Green for President in 2008.
Mark Green is a veteran in national politics, usually working from outside government or the border between government and the people. He has a long history as one of Nader’s Raiders, pushing government to be more responsive to its citizens in the face of corporate pressure. After a long stint doing public advocacy work in official and unofficial capacities in New York City, writing some books critical of George W. Bush from a progressive perspective, and running a pair of unsuccessful races for public office in New York City and New York State, Green is now acting as president of Air America Radio after his wealthy family bought the outfit.
Mark Green has said explicitly that he “won’t be running for office again,” but people have said that before and very publicly changed their minds (paging Senator Obama…). If you already know of Mark Green and are supportive, or if you are simply curious, check out the Draft Mark Green webpage and see what you think.
