France Warned of Coming Attack. Bush Did Nothing.

While the mainstream news media were busy hyperventilating over an isolated, idiosyncratic incident of violence this week, another news story about a more systematic problem got less attention.

It turns out that, in January 2001, France warned the CIA that Osama Bin Laden’s organization planned to hijack American airplanes in an attack against the United States.

No extra spying powers were necessary to prevent the attacks of September 11, 2001. George W. Bush just needed to stop celebrating his own inauguration long enough to pay attention to the information that was already available to him.

  1. Iroquois Honky says:

    Freedom Fries anyone?
I, for one, am ready for French Toast and French Kissing.

  2. Harrold F. says:

Uh…yea….right….the French are such as good source of intelligence….and the South African News source is as good as, say, FOX news, huh…. keep reaching for straws, there, progressives…keep reaching…..

  3. Phil says:

iroq you ignorant dyke. What self-respecting woman would french kiss you?

  4. Iroquois Honky says:

When the French foreign intelligence service, the DGSE, hands the CIA 328 pages of classified documents on Osama bin Laden, let’s just ignore it because they’re French and we all know the French just aren’t as good as we are. After all, look at our record of accuracy on WMD.

Something tells me Harrold hasn’t bothered to find out about French kissing either…

  5. Iroquois Honky says:

You should be so lucky, Filly–if fawning over Newt doesn’t help you get over being rejected by women, you can always kiss your motorcycle.

  6. Harrold F. says:

“After all, look at our record of accuracy on WMD.”

Funny…those reports were acknowledged and endorsed by the entire US Senate a few years back…(Do a quick search on You-Tube to see them all spewing their endorsements) and the UN signed on to them as well….so don’t go saying that they are GW’s reports alone…cause they are not….

  7. Iroquois Honky says:

So tell me again how dependable U.S. intelligence is compared to those French, and why we should have ignored the intelligence about bin Laden handed to the CIA in France by the DGSE? Why wasn’t this French info given to the Congress instead of the bogus yellowcake stuff that Valerie Plame’s husband had already found out was incorrect? And why the sudden fracturing of our relationship with France after they had given us intelligence that turned out to be so valuable and accurate……..

  8. hudson says:

we did not have to go to France, we had plenty of evidence here, the FBI and the CIA. and the outgoing administration. The Bush administration wanted a war fron the get-go. BEFORE September 11 even happend. and they wanted it in Iraq, not Afghanistan. its just more evidence piled onto the stinking hole where our honor as people used to be.

on a brighter note, provided Iroquois doesn’t smoke, i see no reason not to french kiss

  9. The Animist says:

Once again, the Bushies have bf’d us. Jeez, george, swallow the stupid pride and GET HELP.

On a side note, Phil has been seen kissing his motorcycle.

  10. Iroquois Honky says:

Oooh, Hudson, you made my day, but I would rather kiss a smoker with a heart than anyone with the name of Newt on their lips.

Yes, there are ‘good’ reasons and ‘real’ reasons for Iraq, and the WMD was only a ‘good’ reason that made a snappy sound bite.

I’m afraid the lies we have been told will now blind us to any dangers of real WMD posed by Iran or any national interest we have with a continued relationship with Iraq.

Not having learned the lesson of rushing off to war without thinking and asking probing questions, we will now probably rush off to dump our Iraqi friends without thinking and asking probing questions. The only question asked will be how many people are on what bandwagon and not what is best for the country.
