Earlier this afternoon, I identified the Senate Democrats who voted to disable importation of inexpensive medicines from Canada. It’s only fair that I tell the other side of the story as well. A surprising number of Republicans did the right thing, and crossed party lines to vote in opposition to the pro-corporate amendment from Thad Cochran.
The following is a list of these Republican Senators.
Do Right Republicans For Inexpensive Prescription Drugs:
Senator Susan Collins of Maine
Senator Larry Craig of Idaho
Senator James DeMint of South Carolina
Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa
Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi
Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama
Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama
Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon
Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine
Senator John Thune of South Dakota
Senator David Vitter of Louisiana
These Republicans may get it wrong most of the time, but on this particular vote, they did the right thing. They said no to pharmaceutical industry lobbyists with checkbooks in hand, and voted in favor of the interests of the American people instead. They deserve recognition and thanks for that.
