Earlier this week, I found myself thinking, “Hey, self. I bet doing t-shirt printing myself wouldn’t be too hard.” And so I decided to give it a try. I designed, printed and cut out a stencil on heavy card stock, set out a shirt, pulled out some fabric spray paint, and…

OK. So maybe it’s a little harder than I thought. I promise, if we ever end up printing our own shirts, they’ll end up looking better than this.
Reminds me a little of the unobstrusive “hail to the thief” stencils that appeared on sidewalks near campus. Dubya’s head and hands turned out remarkably recognizable, but perhaps this is not meant for a shirt–maybe a railroad car or freeway blogging?

I quite like it. The lettering and style, unintentional though it may be, reminds me of a prison shirt. Almost like saying “Pray or I’ll throw you in the slammer.”
At the risk of stating the obvious:
The easiest way to print your own is to buy blank iron-ons at Staples and put them through an inkjet. I think CafePress started out printing with Alps Microdry printers, rather than inkjet; but those are hard to find these days.
