Aquafina: Tap Water

Look at an Aquafina label and you’ll see the white outline of a mountain. Visit the Aquafina website to click on “water facts” and you’ll see the Pepsi corporation talk about spring water. But is Aquafina spring water? No. Aquafina is tap water. $1.50 a liter for tap water in a plastic bottle.

A plastic bottle made from oil, deposited in landfills (or hopefully recycled), adding to the on-going environmental collapse.
If small items like these (and non-recyclable wrappers on consumer products) need to change in order to have an effect on climate, how much harder is it going to be to get our (global) energy situation turned around?
Close to impossible in the needed time-frame.

  2. Toby says:

I believe most people understood that Aquafina and other bottled waters originated from municipal sources before being rigorously purified. Aquafina is by no means “tap water” – it is purified and tastes way better than tap!

  3. Frunk says:

Oh, yes, Toby! Give me more of that yummy dollar fifty a liter water! Yum! Yum! I am happy to take it, and pay more for it, master! Hit me again!

  4. Damen says:

Isn’t there a law against corporations taking a public service like municipal water and reselling it at exorbitant prices?

  5. People are only now noticing this? Ditto for Dasani, since you’re finally paying attention.

  6. Tom says:

Uh, Damen – in case you’ve been asleep for the past bunch of years, what used to be called “utilities” like public water, electricity and natural gas has magically become PRIVATELY OWNED BUSINESS. Corporations write the laws now, so don’t be too surprised about this scam and the many others which will eventually surface. Enjoy the trip down the drain!

This is some SHREWD reporting. Ever look at a bottle of Mountain Dew? Is it dew from a mountain? No, it is yellow sugar water.

I think that is has been common knowledge for a while that Aquafina and Dasani are filtered water made by Coke and Pepsi. It’s the water from which they would make Coke or Pepsi, but without the Coke or Pepsi added.
