If Ron Paul is Such a Big-Ass Libertarian…

If Republican member of the House of Representatives and presidential candidate Ron Paul is as committed a libertarian as his supporters say he is, what is he doing missing the vote in the House on S. 1927, the bill which blatantly violates the civil liberties specifically included in the 4th Amendment to the United States Constitution, in not just one but two ways.

The answer: Ron Paul was campaigning in Missouri until 3:30 pm, giving a speech about how important liberty is. Then he headed over to Iowa to get a good, restful night’s sleep.

If you aren’t going to bother to actually defend the liberty you talk about, Representative Paul, you might as well go ahead and resign.

Ron Paul has spoken several times about his frustration with having to miss votes in congress. He points out that it is an unfortunate compromise that must be made to pursue a presidential campaign and that he believes that he misses fewer votes than any other congressman running for president.

    OP: Grasping . . . at . . . . straws.

  3. Jim says:

Choices, choices. Whether to talk about liberty, or act to preserve liberty. Whether to vote, or to get a good night’s nappie-pie.

    Dennis Kucinich made the vote.

Ron Paul didn’t make the vote.

It’s nice to hear that Ron Paul is “frustrated” with “having” to miss votes. But you’re wrong to assert that he misses fewer votes than anyone else in the Congress who’s running for president. As the data at the bottom of this article demonstrate, Joseph Biden, Christopher Dodd, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Dennis Kucinich have missed fewer votes than Ron Paul. On a percentage basis, Ron Paul’s absenteeism is comparable to Barack Obama’s. Both Dennis Kucinich and Hillary Clinton have missed fewer votes than Ron Paul on a percentage basis.

    Ron Paul made a choice.

  4. Junga says:

Yes, it’s so HARD having to give speeches about defending liberty.

However, the cause of liberty itself must be sacrificed so that Ron Paul can gain personal power.

That sounds too much like George W. Bush for comfort.

Remember the midnight ride of Paul Revere? Instead, we get the midnight nap of Ron Paul.

Ron Paul is no Paul Revere.

  5. Iroquois says:

He didn’t look all that great in Iowa this morning on Stephanopolis, even with the beauty rest. He sounded whiney, and didn’t answer questions directly. He didn’t have anything concrete to say about what he would do as president, just complained about everyone else messing things up. The guy looked definately swish, reminds me of the actor Henry Gibson from Laugh-in, now playing a judge on Boston Legal. I think he’s the character who’s always worried about being called “namby-pamby”.

  6. Brewskie says:

I love when writers show their disregard for fact to smear someone.

    Where was Tancredo?

Yup…At a Presidential debate with Ron Paul.

Why did the writer mention this?

Cause it’s about the smear, not the facts.

Tancredo would have voted FOR this bill too. So Paul being there would have been a moot point.

  7. Jim says:

So Tancredo didn’t show up to vote, either — despite what you say, we’ve already noted that. All you’ve demonstrated is that Tom Tancredo didn’t give a shit doing his job, either.

  8. Bill Moore says:

Last article I read about Ron Paul said something about only him and Kucinich were spending their weekdays working at Congress instead of campaigning for the presidency.

And how they can’t be considered true presidential candidates if they’re not campaigning all week.

  9. Lars says:

Uh, Brewskie, the Presidential debate was SUNDAY MORNING, not Saturday evening. Ron Paul could have easily done the right thing, and then taken his campaign jet to Iowa. But no, he wouldn’t do that.

  10. Jim says:

Bill, ALL the Democratic presidential candidates made it for the votes on this bill. Ron Paul didn’t. Ron Paul made his decision about which is a higher priority.

  11. dls says:

so ron paul missed a vote that wouldn’t have made a difference anyhow, and he usually states what his vote is in the record. U.S. citizens(14th amendment) have civil rights, americans have inalienable rights, and they cannot be legislated away.

  12. Uh, they just WERE legislated away.

Tell people who lived under Jim Crow that laws don’t have an effect on liberty.

I had never been to see this little blog. Looks like a first graders level of political insights and art work went into it. Keep up the irrelevant work.

  14. Jim says:

Actually, I’m a rising second grader. Get your facts straight!

  15. Thomas Paine says:

“In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.”-Thomas Paine

All you fucking tory’s will see the barrell of my gun if you stand between my family’s liberty and American sovereignty
