I intended for the video I posted here on Irregular Times a couple of days ago to be a contribution to a national dialogue about the Protect America Act. It’s an important topic, in my opinion, because the Protect America Act gives extremely concentrated and uncontrollable power to two of President George W. Bush’s most servants. The new law gives Alberto Gonzales and John Michael McConnell the power to put Total Information Awareness spying against our activities on the Internet, and our telephone calls. It makes Big Brother a reality.
Still, when I checked last night to see what other videos had been posted online about the Protect America Act, I found almost none – certainly nothing not processed by the establishment mass media news companies. When I searched Google Video for “Protect America Act”, only one video came up – the one I made a couple days ago and posted here and on YouTube.
That’s not because there aren’t a lot of people posting videos that are searchable by Google Video. When I searched for “Lindsay Lohan”, Google found 9,767 videos.
The United States of America has taken a major step toward totalitarian nationalism this summer, but most of America seems to have been too distracted to notice the change. Americans are trading the duties of citizenship in for cheap, poisonous trinkets from China and drug-addicted pop icons. America wants its bread and circuses, not its freedom and equality.
If you’re looking for some kind of activism you can engage in against the Protect America Act, start out by writing about the impact of the new law, or making a video about it to share online. Sadly, your video won’t have much competition. Happily, that means that your video has the chance to fill in the breach in the collapse of American liberty.
