At 9:00 AM in Boise, Idaho, some people will assemble and go to the office senators Larry Craig and Mike Crapo, and not leave. At least, they won’t leave for a while – until police come to take them away. Given that the group of protesters has announced on the United for Peace and Justice web site the exact time and place they’ll be doing this protest, I don’t imagine that they’ll be there very long.
The brief occupation of the Idaho senators’ offices this morning will be part of a project called the Occupation Project. Apparently, since February this year, antiwar groups have been organizing protests of this sort in the offices of members of Congress. Until this morning, however, I hadn’t heard of the Occupation Project at all.
Is this activism effective? I’m not sure on the larger scale, but the group in Boise has gotten me to write about their protest this morning, and now you know about their efforts too. That’s worth something.
Good luck, guys, but go a little easy on the staff of Senator Larry Craig this morning. They’re going to be taking a lot of telephone calls about their boss and lewd acts in bathroom stalls today. Why don’t you bring them doughnuts or something, to make the experience pleasant for everyone involved?
Craig has also said he hires people for talent and not for sexual orientation.
In fact, he says he has someone gay on his staff, so look out for the foot thing in the restrooms.
