What do I think? I think it’s not Jenna and Barbara Bush’s fault that their father has driven the country into the ditch. I think it’s a shame that their father has sent other parents’ kids into combat while protecting his, but I don’t think Jenna or Barbara Bush have a special obligation to give up their lives. I think Jenna and Barbara Bush deserve to be left alone except when they specifically use their celebrity to promote some disaster of an enterprise. I think it’s an awfully tidy idea that George W. Bush’s failures are due to his disastrous genetics, but it’s just the flip side of the old aristocratic and essentially racist idea that some people are born to be leaders and others are born to be followers. I think George W. Bush is a miserable failure not because he was born with the wrong genes, but because he was born on third base, decided he’d hit a triple, and has spent the rest of his life practicing his righteous mosey instead of applying himself, paying attention and learning from experience. I think the reasoning behind those bumper stickers is downright Republican.

irrational blame-aiming never serves anybody well. plus, the very notion of governmentally or societally enforced involuntary sterilization for any group is incredibly morally repugnant. that way madness lies.
