This morning, as I was trying to find information about the reason that Dennis Kucinich voted against the bill to require George W. Bush to develop a strategy for removing American soldiers from Iraq, I went to the Kucinich for President web site, where this photograph caught my attention.
It’s a photograph, of course, of Elizabeth Kucinich, with her husband, whose name slips my mind for the moment.
I’ve been noticing a little trend with the Kucinich campaign of bringing Elizabeth Kucinich into the picture, figuratively and literally, whenever possible. One reason is obvious: She’s nice to look at.
Still, is that enough? Does it really justify this kind of photograph, in which Dennis Kucinich is shoved off into a corner behind his wife, on the front page of the Dennis Kucinich for President web site?
Let’s do a little thought experiment. How would it strike us if we saw a similar photograph on the web site of the Hillary Clinton for President campaign, with Bill Clinton standing in front, and Hillary Clinton smiling in back of him, in the corner?
It’s Dennis Kucinich who is running for President, so let’s see Dennis Kucinich, please, unless this whole Kucinich 2008 thing is really just a way to get Elizabeth Kucinich a career doing shampoo commercials.
Not only that, but she seems to be in the act of taking her clothes off, while he has a bit of a leer on his face.
Surely nothing as vulgar as disrobing. More of a come-hither peek-a-a-boo.
Maybe Hillary should try putting Bill up front in something flimsy. As a little fundraising experiment. After all, ladies seem to flock to him. I remember one Q & A session where the question from one young female voter was “boxers or briefs”–the answer being boxers. Of course that’s no guarantee that the “ladies” attracted in that way have money to donate.
