Cheney Just Plain Wrong About Iran
This weekend, Vice President Dick Cheney declared that Iran is “a growing obstacle to peace in the Middle East”.
Growing? How are the obstacles that Iran presents to peace in the Middle East growing? In what way are they increasing?
Iran is actually cooperating more with the international nuclear watchdog group than it was in the past, not less. There are no new developments in the Middle East that merit Dick Cheney’s pronouncement of an expanding Iranian threat.
If there any single country is to be condemned for acting as an obstacle to a peace in the Middle East, it should be the United States, which has created a dynamic of growing instability in the region. Dick Cheney’s declaration of growing threats is more of a reflection on his own behavior than that of Iran.

Well, lets see. I think that most reasonable people would accept that more guns in the hands of terrorists or radicals who don’t mind killing innocents is an “obstacle to peace”. Now, the only issue, is the “growing” part of the statement.
Seeing as how guns don’t disintergrate after use, and Iran is supplying insurgents in Iraq with more weapons every day. That would mean the weapon supplies are GROWING, therefore the obstacle to peace is growing.
And of course, my above two, comparatively weak arguments, pale in comparison to the fact that the United States is probably the only nation/country/force that MAINTAINS peace in the Middle East. Minus the United States, many *MORE* would have been harmed by Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait (and would currently still be occupying them). Not to mention there would be GENOCIDE in Iraq. Oh yeah, and don’t forget about Israel getting invaded by multiple nations. Or the Turks killing the Kurds. Yep, the US sure is bad for peace in the Middle East alright. Just like the Earth is flat, and Elvis is coming back.
