Hillary Clinton, It’s Time to Read the FISA Amendments Act of 2007

Yesterday, Senator Hillary Clinton made the following remarks regarding the FISA Amendments Act of 2007:

“I am troubled by the concerns that have been raised by recent legislation reported out of the intelligence committee. I haven’t seen it, so I can’t express an opinion about it, but I don’t trust the Bush Administration with our civil rights and liberties, so I’m going to study it very hard and as matters stand now, I could not support it and I would support a filibuster absent additional information coming forth that would convince me differently.”

It’s not really Clinton’s fault that she hasn’t seen the bill yet — it’s been the better part of a week and the bill hasn’t shown up on the Thomas database of the Library of Congress. So I’ve made a blog posting over at Clinton’s campaign website introducing her to the current pdf and html versions of the FISA Amendments Act of 2007. I don’t suffer under the illusion that she reads her own website, but maybe a staffer will. However she gets her hands on the bill, I hope she actually does get to read it soon and realizes that it’s in her own best interest as a candidate to make a stand against the bill, committing to hold or even filibuster the bill as Chris Dodd and Joseph Biden have already done.
