irregular times arrow pathsIt is a time of fear in the face of freedom, a time for the widening of previous roads and the opening of new paths, a time of an emptying country and swelling cities, yet a time when these paths are mined by knowing algorithms of the all-seeing eye. It is the time of the warrior's peace and the miser's charity, when the planting of a seed is an act of conscientious objection.

These are the times when maps fade and direction is lost. Forwards is backwards now, so we glance sideways at the strange lands through which we are all passing, knowing for certain only that our destination has disappeared. We are unready to meet these times, but we proceed nonetheless, adapting as we wander, reshaping the Earth with every tread. Behind us we have left the old times, the standard times, the high times. Welcome to the irregular times.

Who Voted To Kill The Resolution To Impeach Cheney?

Filed under Bumper Stickers, Legislation by jclifford at 5:53 pm

Americans should understand that Dennis Kucinich certainly is in favor of impeaching George W. Bush, but he wants to make sure that the man commonly known as “Darth Vader” is not waiting in the wings to take over, so it is Kucinich’s plan to impeach Cheney first.

It was with this in mind that Dennis Kucinich brought a resolution to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney to the floor of the House of Representatives today. The Democratic Party leadership in the House has pledged never to impeach Bush or Cheney, no matter what they do. So, with Nancy Pelosi’s approval, Democratic Representative Steny Hoyer brought a motion almost immediately to table the impeachment resolution.

j. cliffordTo table the resolution would have been, essentially, to destroy it. Tabling the resolution takes it out of consideration, putting it in a big pile of forgotten resolutions that are not discussed any longer, not even in committee. So, the vote on whether to table the resolution to impeach Cheney was the first vote indicating the position of particular members of Congress on impeachment. Did they want the impeachment resolution considered or not?

Some Democrats voted against considering the impeachment resolution. Some voted for considering the impeachment resolution. The same was true of the Republicans. Some for considering impeachment, and some against.

Specifically, 135 Democrats voted to kill the impeachment resolution. Only 86 Democrats voted in favor of considering the impeachment resolution. However, only 27 Republicans voted against considering the impeachment resolution, and 165 Republicans voted in favor of considering the impeachment resolution.

In short, most Democrats wanted impeachment of Cheney swept under the rug, while most Republicans wanted to the impeachment resolution to continue forward.

The end result was that, after many votes on whether to table the resolution, the Democratic Party leadership’s attempt to kill the impeachment resolution failed. A coalition of Republicans and Democrats came together to, for very different reasons, defeat the effort to table the resolution.

The Kucinich resolution to impeach Cheney is now sent to the House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Democrat John Conyers. If you want to impeach Dick Cheney, he’s the man to give a telephone call to: (202) 225-5126

More than that, you need to check up on your own member of Congress. Was your representative among those who tried to hush up the resolution to impeach Cheney? The last names of those members of Congress who voted in favor of killing the impeachment resolution are seen below:

  1. Joe Sestak (D-PA) campaigned, after a lot of bragging about how he was a brave Admiral, went on to promise that he, Admiral Sestak, would get us out of Iraq by the end of the year (2007). So we folk in his district vote out Republican Curt Weldon, who was a long-time House member. So, what’s the first thing Sestak does? He votes to satisfy Bush’s craving for more money to continue his war. We suspect he will probably continue to support Bush’s whining for more cash to pump (along with blood) into that Middle East religious cesspool. As to “impeachment” — He seems terrified of even the word! Lordy! I suppose the only thing about him to be happy about is he is not tugging at the wheel of some gunboat. We are looking forward to his final retirement.

  2. Yeah, L. Step, i too voted for the bum. He turned out to be a typical shit politician - in it for themselves and not listening to the constituency that put him in office. Rat bastards - let’s haul out the guillotine and end this bullshit going on in our government! Off with their heads, all of them who oppose what the majority want! Okay, maybe not, too French. But we can’t keep tolerating the atrocity that is the Bush administration and his toady, feckless Congress. THIS SUCKS! Why do we continue to put up with it?
