![]() | Tom Tancredo Campaign Ad Spoof: Beans, a Threat to Our Security |
You may have been following the brou-ha-ha surrounding Republican Presidential candidate Tom Tancredo and his “Boom” campaign ad. The advertisement features some faceless man putting something the size of a can of Quaker Oats in his backpack, walking into a mall, and… “Booom!” The soundtrack features the ticking of a clock and a narrator informing us that Islamic immigrants are “roaming freely” in this country, waiting to kill us all.
There are some earnest reactions to this, and that’s all well and good, but I think that sometimes the best way to counter fear is with a laugh. So here’s my spoof of the Tancredo ad, on the threat to our Homeland from … beans.
It is a time of fear in the face of freedom, a time for the widening of previous roads and the opening of new paths, a time of an emptying country and swelling cities, yet a time when these paths are mined by knowing algorithms of the all-seeing eye. It is the time of the warrior's peace and the miser's charity, when the planting of a seed is an act of conscientious objection.
