![]() | Howard Defeat Good News For Peace |
Great news comes to us from Australia: Right wing Prime Minister John Howard will lose both his office as Prime Minister and his seat in Parliament. Howard’s right wing Liberal Party, which isn’t actually liberal at all, lost its majority control over the Australian Parliament, and Howard lost his own seat to challenger Maxine McKew.
John Howard’s striking loss comes largely as a result of his long-standing support for American President George W. Bush, including Bush’s invasion and occupation of Iraq. The new Prime Minister will be Kevin Rudd, who has promised to maintain close relations with the USA as a nation, but end the pro-Bush policies of John Howard. Australia will now be withdrawing its soldiers from Iraq. The Coalition of the Willing has willed itself into nonexistence.

It is a time of fear in the face of freedom, a time for the widening of previous roads and the opening of new paths, a time of an emptying country and swelling cities, yet a time when these paths are mined by knowing algorithms of the all-seeing eye. It is the time of the warrior's peace and the miser's charity, when the planting of a seed is an act of conscientious objection.
