In an online chat today, Dodd 2008 presidential campaign staffer Matt Browner-Hamlin affirmed to me that Senator Christopher Dodd remains firm in his commitment to hold and if necessary filibuster the FISA Amendments Act of 2007. Browner-Hamlin wrote:
Dodd has a hold on legislation with amnesty for telecoms — if that is not honored HE WILL FILIBUSTER… he has given me his word he will do it and I trust him. Obviously people aren’t used to politicians standing up for what they believe in when it counts.
Matt’s right; we don’t and I think shouldn’t habitually trust politicians to do what they say they are going to do. But it is reassuring to hear that Senator Dodd is still planning on blocking the FISA Amendments Act of 2007 through a hold or, if necessary, a filibuster. Remember that it was Christopher Dodd who got the ball rolling against this new FISA bill in the Senate. Fellow Senate candidates Biden, Clinton, and Obama followed Chris Dodd’s lead.
