Safeway Irony

Oh, the delicious irony… or, come to think of it, not so delicious irony.

The United States Department of Agriculture is warning residents of Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and New Mexico that ground beef contaminated with salmonella bacteria resistant to multiple antibiotic drugs may have been sold in a chain of grocery stores. The bacteria-laden meat was available on the shelves for almost two months.

The name of the grocery stores where the meat contaminated with gut-busting, drug-resistant bacteria? Safeway.

There is no word yet from Safeway headquarters on whether the grocery store chain will change its name to something more appropriate.

Yeah, with low standards, no effective enforcement, low-wage and illegal workers in the processing plants, our lack of food quality is becoming more and more of a problem.
