Just one week from today, the presidential nominating process will begin with the Iowa caucuses.
As we stand at the brink, who do you hope will win the Democratic nomination for president? Putting your hopes aside, who do you expect to win the Democratic nomination?
I’m curious about your feelings regarding the Republicans, too. who do you hope will win the Republican nomination? And putting your hopes aside, who do you expect to win the Republican nomination?
I’ll share my thoughts about this all later today. But I’d like to read and consider your thoughts first.
R – Hope – Tancredo because his under-funded, uncharismatic message of hate would be easiest to defeat.
R – Expect – Romney because money gives him that establishment shine that R-types like so much. He’ll be able to hide or spin away his flip-flops, and appear as a noble victim if his religion comes up.
D – Hope – Chris Dodd because he actually shows up in the Senate and has the courage of his convictions on the campaign trail. He has a plain-spoken way that I think could persuade undecided voters in the general election who care about the issues.
D – Expect – Hillary because the establishment will push her through, and she at least knows what to say in front of her constituents.
R – Hope – None of the above, I can’t make a reasonable argument for any of them.
R – Expect – Romney, everybody else is going to implode.
D – Hope – Biden – Smart, Experienced.
D – Expect – Obama – Smart, Charismatic. We could do worse than an Obama/Biden or Obama/Dodd ticket. I can’t see Hillary winning because it would be too painful to have Bill Clinton in the White House again.
R – Hope – Giuliani. If he won, I would actually not feel like running to Canada.
R – Expect – Romney or Huckabee. If Huckabee is elected, I am going to Canada the day he is inaugurated.
D – Hope – Clinton.
D – Expect – Clinton.
RON PAUL is who I hope will win! By the way is their a difference between the Neoconservative Republicans and Democrates. Nah their all tools for big lobbyist money.
R-Hope-Pedro (write-in vote)
R-Expect-Mitt Romney (ick!)
D-Hope-John Edwards who opted for a publicly funded campaign. Take that, Paul Freaks!
D-Expect-John Edwards because I’m feeling optimistic right now.
Thanks to everybody for writing in. Very interesting.
Typical of a Paulite that he didn’t answer the actual questions. True believer.
R-Hope — I’m with mkb. I find it very difficult to say. If I could take the me from four years ago at this point, that old me would say “Mike Huckabee, because he’s such an extremist, ethically-challenged buffoon that there’s no way he’ll be elected.” After Bush, I’ll never utter the words “no way he’ll be elected” with seriousness again. The American people astound me.
But if I have to choose a Republican, I choose Ron Paul, because if he were elected president, he would tie the presidency up by refusing to cooperate with anybody in government, by alienating people with his bad habits, and by insisting that the government had no business installing flush toilets. That black hole of presidential power would hopefully be filled with Congressional action, remedying the current inappropriate imbalance of powers. No, though, I do not want to choose Ron Paul, and I think he’d be a horrid president. He’d just be the least horrid.
R-Expect – Romney. Huckabee will make a play for it, but he doesn’t have the support of corporate money, so he won’t last long. Romney has the support of corporate money.
D-Hope – Can I say Feingold? No, not fair. At this point, I’m leaning toward Christopher Dodd, because he seems the most sincere in his support for the Constitution, civil liberty, and attention to process.
D-Expect – Obama. When the campaign moves national, a “hope and change” slogan wins out over the Clinton restoration pitch.
