![]() | The Two Sides Of Mitt’s Mouth On Energy |
Thanks to Matt Stoller of Open Left for a brilliant on the ground observation from on the ground in Iowa. Stoller went to see a speech by Mitt Romney yesterday, and noticed an obvious but odd inconsistency:
“During the speech he lauded Bush for getting us off oil, and then lamented that oil hit $100 a barrel today and that we buy 60% of our energy and that energy independence is a major challenge.”
So, Mitt Romney, which is it? Did Bush get America off oil, or do we buy most of our energy from overseas with energy independence a major challenge? If America is really off oil, how come the price of oil hasn’t gone down instead of up?
It’s just another piece of proof that Mitt Romney has obtained a no-fault divorce from reality. He’ll say whatever he thinks sounds good, meaning whatever he thinks people want to hear. All the while, Romney is counting on people paying more attention to his hair than to the words coming out of his mouth.
It is a time of fear in the face of freedom, a time for the widening of previous roads and the opening of new paths, a time of an emptying country and swelling cities, yet a time when these paths are mined by knowing algorithms of the all-seeing eye. It is the time of the warrior's peace and the miser's charity, when the planting of a seed is an act of conscientious objection.

I’d be happy if I thought that Mitt Romney’s absurd energy politics had anything to do with his loss among Republicans yesterday. I’m sad to say I think it had more to do with him being Mormon.
