The following groups all called on their members to attend protests today against the torture and indefinite detention without charge or habeas corpus rights of individuals at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Bagram and other black sites under U.S. jurisdiction around the world:
American Civil Liberties Union
Amnesty International
Bill of Rights Defense Committee
Center for Constitutional Rights
CodePink
International Federation for Human Rights
Network of Spiritual Progressives
Peace Action
School of the Americas Watch
Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition International
United for Peace and Justice
War Resisters League
The Washington, DC protest today is the most extensively advertised and organized of these protests. The following is a picture I just took at the DC rally’s height:

250 people at the most attended the rally against torture and indefinite detention by the United States in that nation’s capital, the capital of the most powerful nation in the world, the capital of the nation responsible for this conduct.
I am ashamed for my country. But I was inspired by the dedication of those who did come, and by the words of the speakers who made clear why this practice of American torture and indefinite detention must come to an end, and how we all share in the responsibility to bring these unAmerican activities to an end. As soon as I can, I’ll share their words with you.
