Did Obama or Clinton Win The Nevada Caucuses?

In the straight popular vote in the Nevada Caucuses today, Hillary Clinton edged out Barack Obama by about five percent. That seems to mean that Clinton won the caucuses, but it ain’t necessarily so.

According to some projections, Barack Obama won 13 delegates, while Hillary Clinton only won 12. Remember that, in the party nomination process, delegates, many of them not even chosen through primaries or caucuses, choose the winner. Rank and file Democrats and Republicans don’t have a direct democratic say in the matter.

Whichever way you choose to interpret the Democratic presidential caucuses in Nevada, the race remains tight between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, and the delegate count is still far from over.

Those projections are holding, by the way. 13 delegates to Obama. 12 to Clinton. It was Barack Obama who won Nevada.
