Oh me, oh my. The results are streaming in now. 10% of precincts reporting! Woo hoo! Deliberative decisionmaking in action! Ish!
Who do you think is going to win these caucuses? Who do you hope is going to win?
I have in mind the upcoming primaries of February 5, by which time more than half the states in the USA will get to have their say about the candidates for president. I’d like to see results today that keep the maximum number of candidates in play until then. If that means Kucinich and Edwards doing unexpectedly well, then by gum I’d like to see that. What I would rather not see is the winnowing of the field of contenders any further before a majority of Americans gets to speak out on the matter.
P.S. It doesn’t look like the caucus results are turning out the way I’d hoped. Hillary Clinton is coming in first, Barack Obama is coming in second, and John Edwards and Dennis Kucinich have gotten scarcely any support. I’m worried people are going to interpret these results in conformist fashion for February 5, treating the results from Nevada (along with the results from Iowa and New Hampshire) as a reason not to vote for a candidate they believe in and would otherwise support.
