When and How the Nevada Caucuses Go Down (Sooner than you Think!)

Are you looking for Nevada Caucus results? Then by all means, don’t have a leisurely dinner, stroll over to the tube at 8 pm and expect to start watching the returns come in. You’ll be too late to catch the action. Doors close and the Nevada Republican Caucuses begin at 9:10 AM local time (12:10 PM Eastern). Doors close for the Democratic Nevada Caucuses to begin at 11:30 AM local time (2:30 PM Eastern).

The system for caucusing is the same for the parties as in Iowa — for Democrats, if people show up to support candidates who have fewer than 15 percent support in a caucus group, they either have to go home or join another candidate’s caucus group. For Republicans, people show up and simply vote by secret ballot. The reporting discrepancies are also the same. While the Democrats in Nevada will be using a spiffy automatic touch-tone phone reporting system (With Democratic results tallying automatically here), the Republicans will be using pen and paper and then phoning in results (See Republican results here).

Caucusing begins with Republicans in 25 minutes. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. Have I got any popcorn around here? Must find popcorn.

One Response to When and How the Nevada Caucuses Go Down (Sooner than you Think!)

  1. Jim says:

You know, people used to say that sure, the Republicans were nasty, but at least they were organized. I don’t hear people saying that any more. Republican caucus ballots have gotten lost in Nevada, Republican caucusgoers have been given the wrong date, and while the Nevada Democrats already have their caucus results reporting website up and running before the Democratic caucus even begins, the Nevada Republican Party is still telling people they’ll need to check in tomorrow. Um, tomorrow is today, and the Republican caucuses have already started. Apparently, elephants do forget on occasion.
