No Little Pink Houses For John McCain

You’d think that John McCain would have learned from George W. Bush’s embarrassing gaffe in 2004, when he campaigned for re-election using the song “Still the One”, written by John Hall, who had never given his permission, opposed the Bush re-election, and just so happens to now be a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Unfortunately, using the “McCain” and “learn” in the same sentence is a bit of a challenge. John McCain has been caught doing the same thing that Bush did – using songs on the campaign trail to promote his presidential campaign without getting permission. As with Bush, the songs were written by a liberal who doesn’t support John McCain.

This time, the songs were written by John Mellencamp: Pink Houses and Our Country. From Our Country come lyrics that explain why John McCain campaigned in favor of Democrat John Edwards:

Poverty could be
Just another ugly thing
And bigotry would be
Seen only as obscene
And the ones that run this land
Help the poor and common man
This is our country.

John McCain’s narrow intellectual range makes it impossible for him to find music that speaks to the American people in a positive way without it coming from a liberal voice. Why doesn’t McCain just do what Ronald Reagan did, and play Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the USA?

Oh, wait a minute. Ronald Reagan did that without permission too, just like McCain and Bush. Also, it turns out that Bruce Springsteen is a liberal too. Oh, darn.

John McCain may now want to take this warning from Pink Houses:

They told me when I was younger
Said “Boy you’re gonna be president.”
But just like everything else those old crazy dreams
Just kinda came and went.
