It is a time of fear in the face of freedom, a time for the widening of previous roads and the opening of new paths, a time of an emptying country and swelling cities, yet a time when these paths are mined by knowing algorithms of the all-seeing eye. It is the time of the warrior's peace and the miser's charity, when the planting of a seed is an act of conscientious objection.

These are the times when maps fade and direction is lost. Forwards is backwards now, so we glance sideways at the strange lands through which we are all passing, knowing for certain only that our destination has disappeared. We are unready to meet these times, but we proceed nonetheless, adapting as we wander, reshaping the Earth with every tread. Behind us we have left the old times, the standard times, the high times. Welcome to the irregular times.

Both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton Fail To Show Up For Final FISA Vote

Hillary Clinton failed to show up for the final vote on the FISA Amendments Act. Barack Obama cast a number of votes on amendments and procedural hurdles for the FISA Amendments Act earlier in the day, but skipped out of town, missing the final vote for the FISA Amendments Act.

You might say Obama’s failure to attend the final vote puts my ankle on the fence when it comes to my vote in Ohio, if not yet my glute. Senator Clinton, you’re going to have to do some really hard work to get my vote in March. You missed a lot of substantively important votes today, and the consequence is that Americans stand to lose a fair amount of their civil liberty and the constitution stands to lose a fair amount of its integrity. Senator Obama, what’s your problem? Is the stage and the adoring crowd of people chanting your name just too big a draw for you to stick around and finish your work? You know, the hard work of leadership and crap like that? Oh, I know, that’s little bureaucratic stuff for the plebes, not soaring orators like you.

These people are not running for sainthood, and if they can’t hack sharp criticism from their own perceived “side” then they’ll never lead a nation.

  1. John McCain was there, and he voted FOR allowing electronic spying against American citizens.

    Nasty, nasty man, John McCain.

  4. A simple majority needed to pass the bill? That would be about 51 votes. Not a close vote at all. McCain could have been out on the campaign trail, whats-his-name is starting to kick his butt.

    Vote Counts: YEAs 68
    NAYs 29
    Not Voting 3
