John McCain Votes For Electronic Spying Against Americans

Today, Republican presidential candidate John McCain proved once and for all that he is no moderate. Senator McCain voted in favor of the FISA Amendments Act, a law that makes the Protect America Act permanent… but even worse. The FISA Amendments Act makes it legal:

- For the federal government to spy on you electronically
- Reading your email
- Listening to your telephone calls
- Watching what web pages you visit
- Following your financial transactions
- Without any explanation of why they’re doing it
- Without anyone outside of the Executive Branch knowing that it’s being done
- Without oversight by Congress
- Giving telecommunications companies retroactive immunity for helping the government do this even before the Protect America Act was passed

When the President of the United States has this kind of power at his disposal, he cannot be stopped. His power is total. He becomes a totalitarian leader.

As a senator, John McCain just voted to give this power to George W. Bush. As a presidential candidate, John McCain just sent a message to the American people that he plans on becoming a totalitarian leader as President himself. Will you give McCain that power?

The stakes of the 2008 presidential campaign just got much, much higher. McCain must be stopped, or he will become unstoppable.
