Joseph Lieberman: It’s Not Torture Without Permanent Damage

Senator Joseph Lieberman on why waterboarding is not torture:

It is not like putting burning coals on people’s bodies. The person is in no real danger. The impact is psychological.

The former Democrat went on to explain that to meet his standard torture, there has to be permanent physical damage to the body.

Just don’t leave any permanent marks, and it’s all OK for your government to carry out. This is the “centrist” set of moral values that Joseph Lieberman promotes. If the American “center” has swung this wildly into violent authoritarian thinking, the only reasonable place to find yourself is off that center.

what i don’t understand is why there are so many people who are under the mistaken impression that psycological damage isn’t just as permanent and just as scarring as physical damage.

Or, more importantly for the Constitution, coercive. Forced self-incrimination is forbidden by the Constitution. Ah, but since when has Joseph Lieberman cared about that little old scrap of paper known as the Constitution?

Yeah, and we see just what kind of democrat he’s been when he endorses McCain like he’s the second coming. Lieberman has always been a democrat in name only and mainly a Jew.
