In the wake of the “Potomac Primaries” in DC, Maryland and Virginia on Tuesday, a lot of people have been buying our Election 2008 buttons, bumper stickers, lawn signs and t-shirts, and a big whopping lot of those people making purchases hail from Ohio and Texas. To satisfy my curiosity, I checked out the distribution of support for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama expressed in sticker, button etc. purchases from Ohio and Texas over the past three days (February 13-15, 2008). To satisfy your curiosity, I’m happy to share the results with you.

Pro-Clinton Gear: 11.3%
Pro-Obama Gear: 88.7%

Sales for the candidates number well over 500 for each of these two states over the last three days alone, making me more confident that this isn’t just a chance artifact of small numbers. Opportunity for supporters of each of the candidates to reach our stores is high: a search for “hillary clinton bumper sticker” and “barack obama bumper sticker” on google, for example, leads to similarly high-ranking placement for our shops. The above results doesn’t resemble the results of surveys drawn from random samples, and that means something. The people who buy these items are highly motivated, willing to lay down cash so they can express their committed support for a candidate in public. That’s not a random group — it’s a group of people who are most likely to show up on election day and vote.

I really enjoy reading your blog, it always has great insight. But I am very frustrated with the media’s lack of questions to the presidential candidates about global warming. Now that it is down to just a few candidates I would think that this would be an issue.
Live Earth just picked up this topic and put out an article ( http://www.liveearth.org/news.php ) live earth is also asking why the presidential candidates are not being solicited for their stance on the issue of the climate change. I just saw a poll on http://www.EarthLab.com that says people care a lot about what their next leader thinks of global warming. Does anyone know of another poll or other results about this subject?
Here is the page where I saw the EarthLab poll: http://www.earthlab.com/life.aspx. This is a pretty legit website; they are endorsed by Al Gore and the alliance for climate protection and they have a carbon footprint calculator. Does anyone have a strong opinion about this like I do? No matter what your political affiliation is or who you vote for this is an important issue for our environment, our economy and for homeland security.

Just a question, alex, but is this by chance a copy-and-paste comment fishing for links? Whenever I see “I really enjoy reading your blog”, and the comment doesn’t have much to do with the topic of the article, I get suspicious.
If you answer within the next day, I’ll know this is a real comment here for Irregular Times. Otherwise, it’s little better than spam.
