No, this isn’t some spambot generated nonsense entry. I’m talking about art.
I was looking for information about squid this morning when I came across a web site called Dreamlines. That’s kind of how the Internet works. One thing leads to another, and it’s often not in the way that we expect.
That’s the fundamental concept behind Dreamlines itself. Dreamlines is an experimental web tool that accepts keyword suggestions, and then searches for images to generate a slowly evolving dream image in an attempt to express a fuzzy kind of sense of how the terms come together.
Sometimes, the result is something close to literal, as with my first search, “asparagus nightmare”, seen below.

At other times, it’s difficult to see what the connection to the keywords is, as with the following, entitled “rocketship sex lasagna”.

After watching the Dreamlines tool work a couple of times, it’s clear to see that the program has a pretty clear and repetitive approach to creating the blended images. Of course, the same could be said about many artists. Does that make it not art?
I tried typing in “hope” and the thing went out to lunch and never came back. I wanted to see what “hope” and “change” look like as opposed to “work” and “experience”. I had do a CTL/ALT/DEL sequence to get my computer’s attention, then go to the task manager and manually cancel the both the “hope” task and the browser in order to get back online again.
That’s probably a metaphor for something if you could figure out what.
I remember back in the 1980′s–Lubbuck Texas– a Rock band called Asparagus Nightmare.
Pretty good band. I guess they gave up. Even after radio airplay on KFMX FM Lubbock radio. Art.
